Inmarsat Government Community Outreach

At Inmarsat Government, giving back to support the quality of life in our society has always been a mainstay of our corporate culture. Our strong sense of awareness and commitment to enriching lives has fueled our continual support of local charities, sustained our involvement in community improvement initiatives, and has encouraged us to expand our reach by engaging charitable partnerships internationally.

Inmarsat Government’s Community Outreach Program stems from our employees’ commitments to their communities, which continues to inspire us to give back. We believe that the key to upholding our commitment to our corporate values is through building meaningful partnerships and strengthening relationships with others who share our vision. We nurture our employees’ dedication to charitable causes through an Employee Matching Fund, in order to harness a sense of ‘community’ and work together to extend the impact of our efforts to benefit those in need.

Employee Matching Fund

Our Employee Matching Fund includes a dollar-for-dollar match our employee's charitable contributions. Through their efforts, Inmarsat Government is able to help an even more diverse community, but the program also encourages employees to cultivate strong, personal relationships with several organizations. Most recently, the company supported disaster relief in Haiti and earthquake and tsunami relief effort in Japan.

Community Service

Company-wide, our employees have cooked, served, gifted, built, and raised funds for numerous local charities, including the Eleanor Kennedy Shelter operated by “New Hope Housing,” in Alexandria, Virginia, the Special Olympics, the Ronald McDonald House, the Avon Walk, and the Chiari Walk, as well as Toys for Tots. We remain inspired by our many former military employees to constantly find new ways to show our sincere commitment to supporting the tactical abilities of our Armed Forces. Most recently, Inmarsat Government sent care packages and donated more than one million minutes to U.S. troops in Iraq, enabling them to make more than 100,000 Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone calls. The company has also participated in the “Hire Heroes U.S.A.” program, which helps severely injured service members connect with employer companies who want to help them build a career in the commercial industry workforce.

Corporate Partnerships

Inmarsat Government provides charitable efforts through annual donations to three well-known and respected international organizations through its Corporate Partnerships initiative. The donations support the life-changing surgeries of Operation Smile, home-building initiatives of Habitat for Humanity throughout Virginia, and the Roanoke-founded Wounded Warriors Project (WWP), which hits close to home for many of Inmarsat Government’s former military employees and supports the expansion of assistance services available to service men and women as they recover and transition back into civilian life. Throughout the year, Inmarsat Government also offers employees the opportunity to volunteer and directly contribute to these life-changing organizations as well as other volunteer efforts.

Wounded Warriors Project

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was initially founded in 2003 in Roanoke, Virginia when a group of veterans and brothers were moved by inspirational stories from wounded service members returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The WWP provides tangible support for the wounded and helps them on the road to healing, both physically and mentally. The program’s purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members and to help injured service members aid and assist each other. The program also provides unique, direct programs and services to meet injured service members’ needs.

With the support of partners like Inmarsat Government, the Wounded Warrior Project is able to expand their services to the many men and women that have served our country, assisting warriors as they recover and transition back into civilian life.

Operation Smile

Operation Smile began in 1982 when dedicated medical volunteers started providing free surgeries to children around the world who were born with a severe cleft condition. Children born with this condition are often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile, and in some places, these children are shunned and rejected. This charity organization provides safe, effective reconstructive surgeries for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate by medical professionals. Operation Smile is able to heal children’s smiles and bring hope for a better future. With the support of partners like Inmarsat Government, Operation Smile is able to continue providing hope for a brighter future to children throughout the world.

Habitat for Humanity

Established in 1976, Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent place to live in dignity and safety. This nonprofit organization provides housing to people throughout the world who would not otherwise have a simple, decent home in which to live due to poverty or natural disasters. To date, Habitat for Humanity has built over 350,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.75 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, affordable shelter. With the support of partners like Inmarsat Government, Habitat for Humanity is able to continue transforming the lives of families lacking a place to call home.
